Yasgur not only was the owner of a 600 acre dairy farm in upstate NY, but also played a significant role in the Woodstock Music & Arts Festival August 15-19, 1969. Running out of options in the last hour, organizers struck a deal with Yasgur who leased his land to host the festival. At 50 years old, Yasgur was pro-Vietnam War politically, but also staunchly believed in freedom of expression, even if it differed from his views. Welcoming a large group of hippies to his small conservative town even caused some neighbors to boycott his daily products. What resulted was a 4 day event of Peace & Love whose stories will remain for all eternity.
